Twenty calls after TV plea on killing POLICE have received
more than 20 calls after appealing on Crimewatch UK last night for informa- tion into the killing of Jay Abatan. His partner Tanya appeared on the show, during which it was announced family members and police were putting up £75,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction. Mr Abatan, an accoun- tant from Eastbourne, died after he was attacked at the taxi rank outside the Ocean Rooms night-club in Morley Street, Brighton, on January 24 last year. ResponseHis brother Michael was also injured. A Sussex Police spokesman said CID offi- cers were delighted with the response to last night’s television appeal, the sec- ond time the case has fea- tured on Crimwatch. She said: “We are very pleased with the reaction. The response has been extremely positive and we are following up some interesting leads. “It is a case we are very keen to solve.” Mr Abatan’s family claims the killing was racially motivated but police refute this. Last June magistrates dropped manslaughter charges against two men due to lack of evidence. They were also cleared of assaulting Michael.
